The Socialist Central Committee, Ltd. intervened to recommend changes to the Social(ist) Network. As a result of a generous contribution, the Committee had recommended that the Social(ist) Network move forward under the following terms:

  • There will be FREE general access to the network to correspond with the FREE local membership in America’s Socialist Party.
  • All network groups are considered local activities.
  • New members while enrolling will be offered an opportunity to donate to maintaining the network infrastructure.
  • To have voting rights and influence on state party governance, members will have to “upgrade” their membership to the paid state membership level, which is set at – $9.95.
  • Network members must pay the state membership dues to access the state committee page(s).
  • To have voting rights and influence in national party governance, members will have to “upgrade” their membership to a paid national membership level, which is set at – 9.95.
  • Network members must pay the national membership dues to access the national committee pages.

So, as it goes: There is no access fee due from those who are only interested in developing local activism. For those who are interested in only state level governance and affairs, only the state dues is required. And, for those only interested in developing America’s Socialist Party at the national level, only the national dues will be required.

The Committee reemphasized that their only interest is to provide a network through which socialists can mobilize locally and eventually harmonize nationally. And, they reemphasized that the executive director’s role is only that of network administrator.

In other words, the local success of any socialist activism is based upon the efforts that the local activists put into it. Nothing will happen if no one does anything. And, the state and national level governance of America’s Socialist Party will or will not develop based upon level of the interest that the membership shows in developing those levels.
